Fingertip3™: Low Power Embedded Platform based on Marvell's PXA255 Processor
At the size of a credit card, Fingertip3 is the smallest, lowest
power embedded platform based on Marvell's PXA255 processor. With Fingertip3, developers
are not limited by the size of the embedded platform. Fingertip3
allows developers to create small, ultra-portable, low-power
handheld devices.
- CPU - Marvell PXA255 processor, up to 400MHz
- Flash Memory - 16-32 MB
- SDRAM - 32-64 MB with self-refresh
Marvell's PXA255 CPU, providing up to 400MHz of processing power and consuming as low as 350mW, is designed for OEM developers of handheld devices who need a small, low power consumption platform. Fingertip3 is based on Marvell's PXA255 CPU, providing up to 400MHz of processing power and consuming as low as 350mW. With a minimum input voltage requirement of just 3.6VDC, Fingertip reduces battery size requirements and supports an array of standard peripherals and a variety of LCD displays through multiple on-board interfaces. Peripheral support has been extended with the addition of a Secure Digital slot (for SD memory cards) in addition to a compact flash slot, I²C, synchronous serial interface and a network synchronous serial port.
Fingertip3 was intelligently designed for full integration into custom products. The Fingertip3 Development Platform provides the starting point for Fingertip3-based designs and comes complete with all the hardware, software and documentation needed to start development. Engineering Services are also available for custom projects or packaging needs.

Elf3™: Ultra Low Power Solution, Using Marvell's PXA255 Processor
Elf3 packs complete functionality on 12 inches square and is designed for OEM developers of handheld devices who need the ultimate in peripheral connectivity. With numerous expansion options, Elf3 is based on Marvelll's PXA255 processor, and provides for extended display support, on-board Bluetooth and GPS and memory expansion of up to 32MB Flash and 64MB SDRAM.
- CPU - Marvell PXA255 processor, up to 400MHz
- Flash Memory - 16-32 MB
- SDRAM - 32-64 MB with self-refresh and backup (JTAG)
Elf3 provides up to two PCMCIA slots for wireless networking, mass storage, data acquisition or other peripherals. Additional features include ultra-low power consumption by utilizing the advanced power management features of the PXA255 processor, on-board power supply, on-board battery-charging circuitry, and the Elfbus, a custom peripheral connector.
Custom hardware requirements frequently arise in many industrial, biomedical and other data acquisition and signal processing applications. The Elf3 incorporates the Elfbus daughter card interface on a 50-pin connector. The Elfbus is a 16-bit data bus primarily designed to interface peripherals to the PXA255 system bus. In addition to the address and data signals, the Elfbus provides direct access to processor interrupts, UART and SPI interfaces and a number of generic GPIO signals. Elfbus also provides access to the battery and 5VDC and 3.3VDC power supplies. The LCD display adapter connector allows easy production-quality interfacing to most existing color and monochrome displays. The adapter also supports an optional touchscreen interface. USB device, 14-bit codec and 10 interrupt-capable GPIO pins are also available via Elf3 connectors.
The Elf3 has been designed to give OEMs the choice of tightly wrapping packaging around the on-board peripherals or cabling to off-board peripherals for packaging in a variety of commercially available enclosures. InHand offers full 3-D models and IGES files of Elf3 to aid developers in creating their packaging. Engineering Services are also available for custom projects or packaging needs.
The Elf3 development platform provides the starting point for all PXA255 based designs. It comes complete with the hardware, software, and documentation developers need to get started.
