InHand to Unveil New Intel Atom-based System
Rockville, MD (August 13, 2008) - InHand
Electronics, Inc., a leader in small form factor, low-power embedded systems
for OEMs of mobile devices, will unveil their new Intel Atom-based FireFly next
week at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) in San Francisco. Taking place at the
Moscone Convention Center, August 19 -21, IDF will be InHand’s first time
presenting the 95mm x 114mm single board computer to the public. IDF attendees
are encouraged to stop by InHand’s booth (#354) to examine the small, but
powerful system for the first time on public display.
During the unveiling, InHand will provide details about what differentiates FireFly from the sea of COM-based solutions hitting the market. One such differentiator is that FireFly is the only Atom-based stand-alone system with on-board DDR and a full array of on-board peripherals, including: 10/100 Ethernet, touch screen interface, audio and display support, 1 RS-232 serial port, 2 USB host ports, 1 USB client port, dual battery charger, ExpressCard slot, microSD slot, and support for onboard 802.11, Bluetooth, and GPS. Additionally, InHand’s BatterySmart power management software results in lower total power usage and increased battery life.
“FireFly is distinctive in that, unlike our competitors’ systems, it offers an impressive array of functionality without an expansion board,” stated Dan Rowland, InHand’s Director of Marketing. “This means that the majority of customers can use FireFly, out of the box, without designing and manufacturing a complex carrier board. This greatly reduces system complexity and cost, and gets customers to market faster. Its small size and stand-alone capability make FireFly a competitive solution for designers of next generation UMPCs and battery-operated wireless devices, but it’s the combination of BatterySmart with Intel’s Atom processor that places FireFly in a different class from all other products on the market!"
