Rockville, MD (April 9, 2008)– InHand Electronics, Inc., a leader in low-power handheld and wireless device platforms for OEMs, today announces the InHand FireFly system. The system is based on Intel’s new low-power processor and chipset, the Intel Atom processor Z500 series and Intel® System Controller Hub (SCH) US15W. The Intel Atom processor is an Intel® architecture product designed from the ground-up, which consumes 1/10^th the power of ULV single-core Intel® processors.

Designed specifically for battery-operated, handheld devices, and targeted towards the military, medical and infotainment markets, InHand’s product will be one of the smallest, full-function systems available. At approximately the same size as COM-Express modules, which require a carrier board, the InHand FireFly can be used as a stand-alone single board computer (SBC) or with an expansion board. Power supplies, battery charger, memory, wireless interfaces, SD slot, LCD interface, HDD interface, ExpressCard™ slot and standard peripheral connectors will all be included on-board. By integrating these features and connectors on a single board, InHand greatly reduces customers’ time-to-market, system complexity and device thickness.
