CAD Design Engineer

Title: CAD Design Engineer

Degree/Education Requirements: Formal training/education as a CAD designer; Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering and/or IPC certification a plus

Job Description:

This individual will be the lead PCB designer for various internal R&D as well as custom projects. He/she will create and maintain symbols for schematic and PCBs using Mentor Graphics DxDesigner and Expedition tools. This individual will be responsible for maintaining InHand parts database as new parts are added to the system. He/she will work closely with hardware engineers, mechanical engineers and component technicians to produce PCB designs that conform to IPC standards to ensure they are manufacture-able and testable.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities include:

  • Design small form factor, multilayer PCBs using Expedition PCB tool from Mentor Graphics
  • Create and maintain schematic and PCB symbol libraries
  • Maintain InHand Parts Database
  • Generate assembly drawing and fab packages and obtain quotes from PCB vendors
  • Interface with PCB fab houses and CMs for technical question resolution
  • Maintain Mentor Graphics Software Suite as upgrades become available
  • Document and enhance operating procedure related to PCB design process
  • Other duties as required.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must have a minimum of 10 years relevant professional work experience in a similar position.
  • Must be familiar with the Mentor Graphics Software Suite and its capabilities
  • Must be able to create schematic and PCB parts libraries
  • Must have a strong understanding of schematic and PCB interactions
  • Must be experienced with fine pitch BGA parts and micro/blind/buried vias
  • Must be experienced with controlled impedance and matched length designs
  • Must be familiar with DFx concepts
  • Must have a knowledge of Cam 350 Gerber to IPC check
  • Must have a strong knowledge of IPC-A-600 Class 2 and 3 requirements
  • Must have a strong knowledge of PCB fabrication process
  • Must be able to design for minimum layer count consistent with board requirement
  • Must be able to project and meet realistic schedule
  • Must work well in a team environment while possessing a proven track record of self-start and independence
  • Must have proficient verbal and written communication skills
